"Meta Connections," a new solo exhibition by Michelangelo Pistoletto at the Galerie Tanit in Munich.

Until October 2, 2025, the German gallery hosts an exhibition illustrating some of the master's milestones in the integration of the human and artificial mind through technological development. Pistoletto introduced the exhibit's works with a dedicated text: let's read his words.

Michelangelo Pistoletto

With the "Quadro Specchiante" (1961-62), the threshold of the unknown opened, and the universe presented itself to our gaze, offering us its total immensity.
The development of Artificial Intelligence now allows me to practically penetrate the universal phenomenology reflected in the Mirror Painting.

The exhibition Meta Connections showcases some of the steps in the journey toward the integration of the human and artificial minds through technological development.

In the work QR Code Possession – Autoritratto (2019-23), I introduced a tattoo of 12 QR codes into the instantaneous image of my portrait, representing key moments in my life, thus extending my memory within the space-time of the Mirror Painting.

In the work Ragazza che fotografa un Qr Code (2021), the figure fixed on the mirrored surface holds a smartphone displaying a QR code. Through this QR code, the viewer can see me accompanying visitors and illustrating the tour of the exhibition of my works.

The work QR Code Possession – Michelangelo Pistoletto & A.I. is presented for the first time in this exhibition. It consists of five "abstract" canvases, each 135 x 135 cm, each containing, and collectively, a character and representative meaning. By scanning the QR Code of each canvas with their digital device, the viewer directly participates in the intense conversation between M.P. and A.I. In five exchanges, the human and the artificial being reach a precise and clear mutual understanding.
