Cittadellarte at the "Venice Climate Week 2026": art, responsibility and climate diplomacy in Venice
From the participatory flash mob "Married to the Lagoon" to public meetings with Michelangelo Pistoletto and Paolo Naldini, Fondazione Pistoletto takes part on 3 and 6 June 2026 in the Venetian festival dedicated to climate change with three events focused on the relationship between art, ecology and social transformation. Through collective actions in public spaces and discussion forums open to the festival's international audience, Cittadellarte will bring some of the core themes of its research to the Venetian lagoon: the Third Paradise as a connective tool between nature and artifice, the concept of Preventive Peace, and the role of Demopraxy in building new forms of environmental and political awareness.
From 3 to 8 June, Venice once again becomes an international laboratory for reflection on the planet's future with the second edition of the Venice Climate Week. The festival was conceived by journalist and science communicator Riccardo Luna and is curated alongside Sara Roversi—social entrepreneur and founder of the Future Food Institute—and Cristiano Seganfreddo, artistic director of Flash Art and an independent curator working across art, design and cultural innovation.
Under the title Planet Aqua, Planet Peace, the 2026 programme brings together scientists, artists, philosophers, entrepreneurs, cultural institutions and international activists to examine the relationship between the climate crisis, contemporary society and new models of coexistence. Within this context, Cittadellarte participates in the event with three appointments spanning different mediums, from collective performance to public debate.
Indeed, the Fondazione's participation kicks off on Wednesday 3 June at 9:30 am with Married to the Lagoon, the inaugural flash mob of the Venice Climate Week dedicated to the symbol of the Third Paradise. Conceived as a symbolic "marriage to the lagoon", this collective action will invite citizens, students and associations to take part in a public ceremony of alliance with the Venetian ecosystem, turning the performative gesture into a declaration of care and environmental co-responsibility. Through the symbol of the Third Paradise, the flash mob will thus open the Venetian week with a participatory action open to the city.
Also on Wednesday 3 June, Michelangelo Pistoletto will be the key figure of the meeting ETHICS, ART & HUMANITY, scheduled for 10:00 am at the Procuratie in Piazza San Marco. The talk will feature the artist in conversation with Cristiano Seganfreddo and Francesco Monico, exploring the concept of Preventive Peace. The meeting will address the necessity of imagining cultural tools capable of intervening before conflict, crisis and environmental rupture occur.
On Saturday 6 June at 12:00 pm, Paolo Naldini, director of Cittadellarte, will speak at the Ocean Space in Campo San Lorenzo during the panel Visualizing the Invisible – Art, Power, and the Geography of Climate, moderated by Seganfreddo himself. This dialogue, dedicated to the role of art in representing climate transformations and in building new collective awareness, will also feature the participation of photographer and visual artist Davide Monteleone, and Barbara Tagliaferri, Chief Brand & Communications Officer and Head of Arts & Culture at Deloitte.
