Third Paradise
The term paradise comes from the ancient Persian language and means "protected garden." We are the gardeners who must protect this planet and take care of the human society that inhabits it.

The Third Paradise is the fusion of the first and second paradises. The first is the natural paradise in which humans were completely integrated into nature. The second is the artificial paradise, which, alongside its beneficial effects, generates irreversible processes of degradation and consumption of the natural world. The Third Paradise is the third phase of humanity, realized in the balanced connection between artifice and nature.
The Third Paradise is the great myth that encourages each individual to take personal responsibility in the global vision. Cittadellarte is the permanent global headquarters of the Third Paradise, a project publicly launched in 2003, on the occasion of the honorary degree in Political Sciences awarded to Michelangelo Pistoletto by the University of Turin.
The Third Paradise is the fusion of the first and second paradises. The first is the one in which humans were fully integrated into nature. The second is the artificial paradise, developed by human intelligence, which has reached global dimensions today through science and technology. The Third Paradise is the third phase of humanity, realized in the balanced connection between artifice and nature.
The symbol of the Third Paradise appears as a reconfiguration of the mathematical sign for infinity, composed of three consecutive circles. The two outer circles represent all the diversities and antinomies, including nature and artifice. The central one is the intersection between the opposing circles and represents the generative womb of the new humanity.
The Third Paradise represents the transition to an unprecedented stage of planetary civilization, necessary to ensure humanity’s survival. To achieve this, it is essential to reform the principles and ethical behaviors that guide common life.
Cittadellarte and Pistoletto bring the symbol of the Third Paradise to life through hundreds of installations created by communities worldwide and the 250 Rebirth/Terzo Paradiso Embassies, which currently exist. The network created by Cittadellarte currently includes 128 federated entities, and the events organized by this network number in the thousands, with over 2.5 million people involved. The activities of this network are communicated and recognized by local institutions, which consider the Rebirth/Terzo Paradiso Embassies as interlocutors for the development of cultural, social inclusion, and territorial activities. Cittadellarte coordinates the project activities and collaborates with each Embassy.
